It may be more and more people's alley in a few years. Maine just made hunting with crossbows legal but they haven't worked out all the finer details. I believe you need to take a bowhunters safety course first, etc.

PA just legalized crossbows for the late Dec. archery/muzzleloader season and rifle season. One cannot use it during our regular bow season which runs all of Oct. and the 1st 2 weeks of Nov. This past season was the 1st season. Personally, it doesn't interest me. It takes some of the challenge away.

It looks like we are forming a concensus here! I don't like them either. I have a friend who has one and immediately bought the license when it became available.

Personally I think they should have allow the use of the "Drawlock" system instead, so that disabled and/or partially disabled persons could hunt with a bow.
For 8 years now I have not been able to draw my 53lb bow back because of bone spurs and rotator tears in my right shoulder. I had surgery (finally) which has cured my shoulder but I have major problems with the muscles in my upper arm. I can not even begin to draw my bow back at this point so I'm no better off than before.

The crossbow has been illegal to hunt with for so long now I think there is a stigma attached to it. I also think in time, this will change. Look at muzzle-loader season. The mainstream hunters didn't want to hunt with muzzle-loader until the manufacturers started drilling and tapping for scopes. Now everyone has a modern ML in their closet in case they don't shoot a deer during rifle season.
