Black Powder Riflemen,
The club will be hosting Gong Shoots again this year. We will be having 3 of these shoots, which will include one that will be billed as the “Maine State Championships”, Black Powder Rifle Gong Shoot.
Our Gong Shoots consist of shooting at steel targets from 50, 75, 100 & 125 yards from various positions at 4 separate locations. The 50 yard stage is shot from the prone position using cross-sticks. The 75 yard stage is shot from the sitting position using cross-sticks. The 100 yard stage is shot offhand. The 125 yard stage is shot from a bench rest position.

4. Single Shot Black Powder Cartridge – Military Rifle
5. Single Shot Black Powder Cartridge – Military Rifle Junior Class (12 through 15)
6. Single Shot Black Powder Cartridge – Military Rifle Masters Class (60+)
7. Muzzleloader Black Powder Percussion
8. Muzzleloader Black Powder Percussion Junior Class (12 through 15)
9. Muzzleloader Black Powder Percussion Masters Class (60+)
10. Muzzleloader Black Powder Flintlock
11. Muzzleloader Black Powder Flintlock Junior Class (12 through 15)
12. Muzzleloader Black Powder Flintlock Masters Class (60+)
Notes:
Masters Class entry is an optional choice for the 60+ shooter.
Junior Class shooters must be accompanied by parent or responsible adult.
Basic Rules:
Black Powder Cartridge
Single Shot breech loading rifle.
Any sights (no type of scope).
Military rifles must use original type sights.
No slings.
Must be original or replicas thereof, developed prior to 1896.
Must have exposed hammers.
No Schuetzen type rifles.
Powder must be black powder or a recognized substitute. No duplex loadings.
No smokeless black powder.
Bullets must be of lead or lead alloy only.
No metal gas checks.
Black Powder Muzzleloaders
Percussion or Flintlock only (no in-lines).
Open sights (no scopes).
No slings.
Must have exposed hammer.
Powder must be black powder or an approved substitute (no smokeless powder).
No smokeless black powder.
Lead bullet, ball or patched round ball.
No jacketed bullets.
