So, who's goin'? I've gotta stand in place, in the middle of a stand of oaks. Lots of sign, place is really torn up. The only downside is missin' out on the social part of it. All of the guys I normally hunt with won't be coming up this year.

Sounds like you've got a good spot. Any rubs in the area yet? You may be hunting a 'doe' area until the bucks get a sniff of the good stuff!
I haven't even set a stand yet but it looks like I might get 3 or 4 up this weekend. Best part is, if I need some shooting lanes I'll just knock some trees down and drag them out for firewood.
I am trying to leave most all the oaks (or ACERN TREES as they say in the south) and lots of big hemlock, both in big patches so the deer have cover and food. I also like to put stands in hemlocks for the cover they provide.

I have no clue where that perfect ten went but I think I found the gray ghost while scouting for trapping...

No rubs or scrapes that are fresh. I'm pretty much in a doe area, but comes time, the bucks will move in looking for the does. I had a core group of 3 of us who hunted together in VA, it got to the point we'd get together for a few barley pops the night before a hunt to figure out our strategy and stand positions. We really covered an area and generally, got some good deer out of it. One guy could track an ant on plate glass, another was the slickest at field-dressing I've ever seen. Plus, they all fished the same type of water I liked to fish. Guess I've gotta find some like-minded folks up this way.

Are the oaks producing acorns where you are? Are they white or red? I just put a stand up near some white oaks, but to date I haven't been able to guage production. I haven't seen many red oak acorns this year; last year was a bumper crop.
