I have initiated some dialogue with some members of the Legislative Committee to MDIF&W about getting a Constitutional Amendment stating Maine heritage to hunting and fishing.

Other states have this and while it may not completely protect us from having to continuously fight the antis, it certainly would slow them down and as an amendment, the courts would have no choice than to have to work toward protecting that heritage.

I have a difficult road ahead and I will need all the support I can get. I am counting on all of you.

I am awaiting correspondence on the formal steps needed to initiate this. I will need to find authors of the bill and work toward creating its wording - which of course is necessary.

The more people we can get behind this and the sooner, the better we will all be.

I'll keep you posted and please, if you know anyone who can help this process along, let me know.

I am waiting for more info before I begin contacting organizations such as SAM of the Maine Guides, hunting and fishing clubs, etc.

I'll see if I can get some wording for you from Alaska. They HAVE it in their constitution that no one shall manage fish & game without being qualified. They have a Board of Game and they employ "best management practices" that are accepted nation wide.

I envision an amendment that protects it all, even them dad gum bass fishermen!

Have I heard anything? Getting a response from any of them yahoos is like trying to find a republican in Massachussets!

I'm about ready to start getting annoying.

Maybe a mass email to every member of the House and Senate, MDIF&W, yada, yada, yada.

Seriously though, I think I know what is needed to get the amendment. I also believe there are two ways to go about it. Referendum or find a sponsor/bill writer.

Does anyone have a perspective on which way is faster, better, more affective, etc.?

encourage any dang politicians you know to answer their emails then I could get some answers. Once I know the exact process I need to go through, I'll let the whole world know.

Jack, I have all that info but thanks. I have contacted select members of the legislature and they don't return contacts.

I was wanted to get the procedures down before I began an assault but maybe I am too timid for this activity. I thought doing it right the first time might save time later on.

Maybe potato man's way is the better way.
