i asked kind of the same question about calling cows here and on some other forums and got a bunch of replies that more or less said the same thing. do some bull calling ( cow calls, cows in heat calls ) and the bulls that do show up may very well have a cow along with them. seemed to work well last week. possibly try some calf calls too.

as far as scouting/hunting goes, be out at your most likley locations about 1/2 hour before legal shooting time or earlier. then emphasize the time just before legal shooting ends. mid day- , well seemed a lot slower to me.

more power to your 92 year old friend. i'd like to be there to listen to some of his hunting stories from the years gone by. my Dad passed away at 92 and always kept his interest in hunting, even when he wasn't quite up to going out anymore. he shot his last deer ( a 180lb buck ) with his muzzleloader when he was 84. he let the younger guys he was with drag it out. they were only in their 70's.

can't be of much help about your district but in district 3 last week the moose weren't too far from the wet areas and were real partial to traveling in and out of them morning and night to get to agricultural fields and hay/clover fields

you're going to have a great hunt, especially since your older friend is along. when you think back about it, it isn't even so much as to whether you tag out or not. relish the time you get to spend with your friends on the hunt.

good luck, - jay
