I was actually reading an article the other night I found interesting. A lot of people think deer don't drink much from water sources and get most of their H2O from plants, etc...
When deer are in the middle of their rut the energy level of both buck and doe is increased causing the deer to become more thristy than normal. When this is the case you will generally find deer around ponds, streams, and rivers more often for replenishment than normal.
So, if deer are in rut you may want to hunt around water and look for common routes and stand watch..
