OK once you shoot and gut your bear how do you usually drag him out if you have a ways to walk? Anybody have any good tips on dragging a bear out of the woods? Do you just toss a rope around him and pull or do you make something to slide under him to make pulling a lot easier?

You have to be a knot man, but I have a piece of 1/2" line I have tied a small loop bowline in one end. Then I have 4 more larger bowline (non-slip) loops up the line. This allows several guys to drag them out. JP most likely has a couple too.
For long haul deer, I use a small OTTER sled.

I bought and old Army stretcher (surplus store). Works great if you have 2 guys. Learned this trick from Foggy Mountain Guide Svc. (it beats dragging!)

There are also canvass roll-up style stretchers available, too. Have one and and dragged an 195 pounder out before; deer went over the blow-downs much easier; no hangups...

Both stretchers were cheap, too.

Thanks for the info. If you are by yourself does it work good too? The canvas roll up style stretchers I could see would work real well.
