I think I'm going to get a chance to get out and do some ACTUAL coyote hunting. I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips about calling them in. From what I've heard the conditions aren't right for baiting, with the lack of snow and frozen ground I anticipate I can get into some of the places that I know has a lot of coyotes. I'm looking for the type of call, how to call, everything and anything you guys have to offer. I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm a novice coyote hunter.

I've gone plenty of reading and research, I just like a little first hand experience. During the first week of deer season near Linneus we heard coyotes 4 of the 6 mornings we went out. There is a big deer yard in the area so I'm guessing there are still coyotes around. Without much snow I'm planning on getting in one the roads around the yard where there was a lot of coyote sign.

stweedie, Any of those rabbit distress calls work, just have to be at the right place at the right time. I have the lohman rabbit distress call. In the past 2 years I called in 2 with this. I,ve got most of my yotes over bait but this year wasn't that good because of lack of snow. I have one coyote call but haven't had a chance to pratice with it. If you get addicted to yote hunting (like I have) you will what a electronic call. I just bought a used foxpro 416b. It doesn't have all the sounds I want but I'm sending it back in to get the ones I want. As you have probably read before the wind is a big factor, 99.9% they come from downwind to the call. Don,t get discourage if you don't see any the 1st couple of times. Like any other hunting sport alot of it is right place, right time and some luck!

Good Luck, I hope to go a few times towards the end of the week. I'll post if I have any luck.
