I have seen the discussion at several forums over time and have sat in on many a discussion concerning the topic of legally using two-way radios while deer hunting. So I fired off an email to Me DIFW and below is the response I got.

Tom,

They would be legal to use for communicating with partners but you must be sure that they are not used to drive deer in any way.

I started using walkie talkies this year to stay in contact with my 14 year-old son who hunts with me. I feel more comfortable knowing I can talk to him while he's over on his stand. He and I have a couple of stands that are nearly a half mile apart and the radio just make me feel better about the arrangement.
