I have heard of the 'northern york county rod and gun'. met them at the acton gun show. seem like nice folk. didn't join cuz they said after app they would have to have meeting and what not. and being me did not want to wait 3 months for approval. wanted to shoot asap. so I joined sanford springvale club. according to other range shooters its a nice set-up. good luck Bob

Thanks Bob. I thought about NYCRG but figured they were too far north of here. YCFGC is located in Lyman, Maine on Rte 35 about one half mile north of Goodwins Mills.

My bad, had the wrong range in mind. Have the application for that one in my desk at work. Have a buddy that just lives around the corner from there and says all the people hes met are very nice and the price is pertty good all in all. Not sure how familar you are with the range, but, if you here someone shootin pull in and talk ,they do require that a current member sponsor you, good luck Bob

I am the membership officer at the Northern York County Rod & Gun Club in West Newfield, ME and if you send in your check and the online application, the board checks you out at the next meeting and we vote at the member meeting, which is the first friday of the month. No three month deal there, but I assume you are pumping that up a bit. You probably met ME at the Acton gun show, as I was there the whole time. I really like the NYCRGC, and that is coming from someone who was a member of the York County F&GC for about 8yrs. Our little club is a bit more relaxed the York county. We pay attention to safety and all, but it just does not get quite so "political" if you know what I mean. We just had our Christmas party too which was a blast! I won a .22 rifle in a raffle, and everyone gets chances all yr long when you go to meetings and help at events to win $150, 100, or 50 at the Christmas party! You don't have to be there, but it is much better to pick up the cash then! We do a pig roast in the summer too which is fun, as well as an ice fishing derby and a game supper after, plus the gun show, and other fun stuff. We are going to put in a trap range this summer and I just brought up maybe putting in a pistol range too. We have a guy who does handgun courses for your CCW too.

Here's the website:

http://www.nycrg.org/

Where it says Tom Cafferky, it should say Chris Dudley, but the site has not been updated since the elections.

Thanks for the info Curlymaple42. Your club sounds really nice but its just too far for me. Other than the "political" aspect of YCFGC, what made you leave? Was it family oriented while you where there?
